Golf holiday resorts in Austria – Alpine Golf

When we first visited Austria’s Golf courses, we were quite simply amazed by the quality and standard of the golf courses in terms of both layout and maintenance.

By late spring, the winter snows have melted and the fertile valley floors burst into life. Contrary to what you may imagine, the courses are not perched on the side of the mountain requiring the fitness and agility of a mountain goat. In fact, the majority of the courses are surprisingly flat and occupy the valley floor framed by surrounding mountains.

Many of our guests have played the golf courses of the likes of Spain and France and come to Austria looking for something new and exciting. They are not disappointed: The golf is challenging, better value and the fairways relatively un-crowded.

Golf in Austria

All of the golf courses we feature offer lush, well-groomed fairways and a very high standard of course maintenance. The standard of Club facilities is also consistently high with all courses offering a bar and restaurant with local and international cuisine, pro shop, equipment hire, lessons, driving range and changing facilities. The Clubhouses are smart yet friendly and informal and the Clubs extend a very warm welcome to overseas golfers.

There is, of course, no getting away from the scenery that surrounds the golf courses and lush countryside, blue skies, spectacular vistas, and huge amounts of fresh mountain air await the golfer and non-golfer alike. Would you believe that your golf ball actually flies that little bit further in the thinner mountain air?

Golf in Austria : Where to go?

We have chosen three distinct golfing areas for your golf holiday in Austria which are all ideal for either a short break or a week’s stay. You can also combine a stay in two or more of these areas.

If you are looking for stunning mountain scenery as a backdrop then Kitzbühel, with its medieval cobbled centre and smart shops and cafes, has some excellent golf courses locally and within easy driving distance.

Zell am See, overlooked by the snow-capped peaks of the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier is a popular lakeside resort offering two championship courses locally and many more a short drive away.

Salzburg and the Salzburger Lake District offer rolling hills in contrast to the jagged peaks of Kitzbühel and Zell am See. Birthplace of Mozart and home to an old town full of character, Salzburg is a vibrant and cosmopolitan city. To the east of Salzburg lies the Salzburg Lake District with its top quality golf courses.

Salzburg and Munich are the two main gateway airports.

Golf Alpin – Green fee packages in Austria

Golf AlpinThe ‘Golf Alpin’ card offers three or five green fees on over thirty golf courses in the regions of Tirol and Salzburgerland. These green fees are valid at weekends and on public holidays and offer a saving over purchasing individual green fees.

3 Green Fees           £150
5 Green Fees            £234

We usually include these in our golf holiday packages. However, these can be purchased separately if required.

Tee Reservations

As part of your reservation with Alpine Golf, we will be pleased to make recommendations on the courses to play and book tee times on your behalf.

Please note most courses require proof of handicap and all courses require soft spikes.

Golf in Austria: When to go

Golf holiday KitzbuhelThe golf courses are generally open from late April until mid-October and we would recommend travelling anytime from mid May until early October.

Summer in the Alps is quite a contrast from the snowy, cold winters. Typical daytime average temperatures are in the mid to high 20°s and whilst mountain weather can often be changeable, rainfall is typically only of a short duration leaving the air fresh and clear.

So, in a nutshell: great golf, spectacular scenery, quality accommodation, outstanding value and a warm friendly welcome.
